What's new:

Hi all!

Yikes! It's been almost a year since I've sent out a newsletter. Obviously, I have commitment issues when it comes to this newsletter. I will try to do better, I swear! I have been at my new job now for more than a year. If you don't remember, I left teaching after 22 years and took a full-time job as a senior editor with Curriculum Associates, an educational publisher (i-Ready).

My picture book, THREE POCKETS FULL: A Story of Love, Family, and Tradition! has also been out in the world for more than a year. In that time, it has won several awards:
  • Five 1st place Purple Dragonfly Book Awards in these categories: Family Matters, Growing Pains, Cultural Diversity, Picture Books 5 & Younger, and Picture Books 6 & Older.
  • 2022 CT Book Awards finalist in the picture book category
  • 2022 Northern Lights Book Awards in the family category
  • The Grand Prize Winner in the 2022 Story Monsters Approved Book Contest
  • Story Monsters Approved in these categories: Ages 3-8 Fiction, Cultural Diversity, and Family Matters
  • 2022 Chanticleer International Book Award Finalist
  • Silver Award in the 2023 Nautilus Book Awards
Here are some pictures from some book events celebrating THREE POCKETS FULL, which is now also available in Spanish (see cover below)!

OTHER THINGS HAPPENING:

In writing: I have completed a middle grade novel that is under contract and coming out in 2024! The official announcement has not yet been posted, but it is coming, and as soon as it's official, I will share the details with you.
In life: Wow...so much! We got out into the world this year, traveling for the first time in a while. I've also been trying new things, like kayaking and fishing. Below, on the right, is the first fish I caught. Go ahead, you can laugh! We also took a cruise out of Miami that stopped in Key West and Cozumel, and I went on a girls' vacation with friends to the Outer Banks, NC. Ahhhhhh...Plus...P!NK in concert in Boston!!!!

Shameless Book Plug

The Doomed Search for the Lost City of Z is one of two non-fiction graphic novels I wrote for Capstone's Deadly Expeditions series!

I read. I write. I "dwell in Possibility."
