What's new:

So, in the last newsletter, I said we were a month away from the release of my debut picture book, THREE POCKETS FULL: A Story of Love, Family, and Tradition...Well...due to some distribution issues, the release date has been pushed back to September 1. This actually came as a relief to me because this is generally how I feel at the end of the school year:

So, I welcomed the extra time to rest and recharge before the book launch. Since school ended, I've been busy with Mom-Uber duties--driving my teen where she needs to go--and we spent a week in Philadelphia. Here are a few pictures of me interacting with the statutes all around the city: Rodin, Ben Franklin, and Rocky Balboa.

The Purple Dragonfly Book Award Contest is a worldwide book competition that began in 2009 to celebrate the best in children’s books in 56 categories. They look for stories that are original, innovative, and creative in content and design. They recognize and honor accomplished authors and also highlight up-and-coming, newly published, and younger writers in the field of children’s literature.

Recently, I revised two picture books and then sent them back to my agent. I'm now waiting for her feedback to see if they need more work or if they are ready to submit to editors. One is about needing a fresh haircut before going back to school. In Connecticut, I always see news stories about barbers and hairdressers who give free cuts to neighborhood kids who need them, so this one if for them. The other is about one girl getting creative when Three Kings Day celebrations are canceled because of snow.

On our wedding anniversary, my husband and I visited the Philadelphia Zoo, where we saw these amazing turtles. Of course, in my mind they are in love :.)

The second "Jake Maddox" book I wrote is DRILL TEAM DETERMINATION. I love step teams, so I was thrilled to write a story about a girl who joins her school's step team despite having performance anxiety.
